Gurian | J-M | 1975 | SN: C2028
This lovely C series J Sized Gurian was submitted to us for the Gurian guitar Registry. The owner kindly gave us permission to use his photos. He also had this to say:
“I bought it in the early spring of 1976 at Sam Ash in Hempstead, NY (no longer at that location). I am the original owner. It has been, for many years, a “working” guitar, so it has some well-earned wear. As you can see, there is some considerable wear both above and below the pickguard. I also needed to replace the bridge pins, as they had worn from so many string changes and several of them no longer held firmly in place. I’m sure this probably reduces it’s monetary value, but that was never a real concern to me, as I have no intention of parting with it.
I was all of twenty-one years old when I found my Gurian. I had been playing a Univox (didn’t everyone start with one of those?) for years, & decided I needed something with better sound. I tried Martins, Guilds, and I don’t know haw many others when the salesman suggested the Gurian. I was immediately enraptured by it’s tone & clarity, & placed my order. I received the guitar about two weeks later, followed by a thank-you letter in the mail signed by Michael Gurian. I also received the catalog which you quote from on your site.
It is still a wonderful instrument, & although I’ve slowed down quite a bit on playing out, it still impresses both me and anyone who hears it. ”
