With a list price of $50,000 the D-50 Koa Deluxe is one of the most ornate Martin made. The sides, back, headplate, end piece, and heel cap are crafted from the highest grade of curly Koa. There is a redesigned Tree of Life pattern cut and inlaid by Pearl Works with every detail cut from highly colorful dark heart abalone, then bordered with a thin band of mother of pearl. background. This pattern continues under the nut and onto the headplate where it terminates with the Martin script logo, also inlaid in abalone with pearl bordering.
In keeping with the opulence, this D-50 was the first Martin guitar to feature inlay on the sides and back. Two pairs of floral designs appear either side of the back inlay strip, the neck heel and endpiece with matching Tree of Life patterns inlaid on the ebony bridge, heelcap and polished black pickguard. Additionally, special pearl herringbone pearl is used on the top perimeter, around the fingerboard extension, the inner rosette ring, and the backstrip.
Further details include gold plated Waverly gold plated brass tuning machines with individually hand engraved tuning knobs. The bridge pins and end pin are inaid with star sapphire and bordered in 14-karat gold settings.
