I own one of these guitars. Mine is slab cut BRW, but the sides are not book matched. It is my understanding that slab cut sides often break, and thus no book matched sides. The back is book matched. The serial number is 462260. I think the top is Adirondack Spruce. The sound of the guitar is fantastic. There were 47 of them made. The quality of BRW in 1986 was not the best, that is why they are slab cut. Martin normally uses quartersawn wood.

The guitar does have the brazilian back and sides (slab cut) but my understanding is that martin did not compensate bridges in the 80s - all custom work.

Hi:I made an error on my first entry (late at night and tired). Many experienced people have told me that the top of my 1986 "BRAZIL" Martin is definitely made of Adirondack Spruce. It has a beautiful voice that is getting continually getting better.
It was stolen from my home during a break-in, put the word out to our local musicians and music stores - the guitar turned up at a pawn shop where I was able to get it back. The person who stole it went to jail.

I have a 1986 Martin HD28 Brazilian rosewood guitar. Serial number is 463089.
Was told at the Martin factory that there were only 47 of these made in 1986.
Also, I believe that the top in Engleman spruce, not Sitka spruce.
